Are you hesitating between Lattafa Asad and Afnan 9PM? The essential difference is not to know which would be the most powerful or the most popular: it is the style you wish to wear. Asad favors a spicy, tobacco, woody and amber register; 9PM stands out for a more fruity, sweet and vanilla direction.
This comparison by Parfum Orient concerns only classic Asad and classic Afnan 9PM, both in 100 ml Eau de Parfum. It does not compare Asad Elixir, nor 9PM Elixir, nor Night Oud. It is based on the profiles and pyramids indicated in our product sheets, and not on a timed comparative test on skin.
Asad or 9PM: the quick answer
Choose Asad if you like pepper, tobacco, coffee and woody and resinous bases. Its vanilla brings a base sweetness, but it does not summarize its identity.
Choose 9PM if you prefer a fruity opening around apple, a cinnamon warmth and an amber-vanilla-tonka base. It leans more towards an enveloping sweetness than towards the tobacco and woody contrast of Asad.
If you are looking above all for a marine, very green or light perfume for high heat, neither of them is the most obvious choice.
The differences at a glance
| Criterion | Lattafa Asad | Afnan 9PM |
|---|---|---|
| Main direction | Spicy, amber, woody and vanilla | Fruity, spicy, amber and vanilla |
| Indicated opening | Black pepper, pineapple, tobacco | Bergamot, lavender, cinnamon, apple |
| Indicated heart | Coffee, patchouli, iris | Muguet, orange blossom |
| Indicated base | Amber, vanilla, dry woods, benzoin, labdanum | Patchouli, amber, vanilla, tonka bean |
| Preference to favor | Spices, tobacco and woody depth | Fruit, vanilla and roundness |
| Compared concentration and format | Eau de Parfum 100 ml | Eau de Parfum 100 ml |
The notes help to locate a perfume, but do not allow to predict exactly its rendering on your skin. A vanilla common to both compositions does not mean that they smell the same.
Why choose Lattafa Asad?
Asad is addressed first to those who are looking for a warm perfume with relief. Its opening combines black pepper, pineapple and tobacco; its heart brings together coffee, patchouli and iris. The amber, vanilla, woody and resinous base extends this direction.
In this choice of two, Asad is therefore the path to favor if you want more contrast between spices, tobacco and sweetness. The presence of pineapple is not enough to make it a mainly fruity perfume, just as the presence of vanilla does not transform it into a simple gourmand perfume.
It is less relevant if you do not like the tobacco facets or if you are looking for an aquatic freshness. Do not choose it solely because it is presented as masculine or intense: first check your affinity with its spicy and woody register.

Why choose Afnan 9PM?
9PM offers another way to wear a warm perfume. The apple and bergamot give a fruity orientation to the opening, accompanied by lavender and cinnamon. The muguet and orange blossom compose the heart, before a base of patchouli, amber, vanilla and tonka bean.
It constitutes the most coherent path of the two if you like fruity perfumes that become sweeter and more enveloping on drying. Its vanilla direction should however not make you forget the spices, the flowers and the patchouli present in its composition.
Discard it if vanilla and tonka tire you easily or if you are looking for a very dry, not very sweet and only woody fragrance. A fruity opening does not mean either that it is a light perfume for all temperatures.

Which one to choose for an evening, everyday or the office?
For an evening, both are conceivable: the choice depends mainly on the olfactory atmosphere you prefer. Asad is the spicy, tobacco and woody path; 9PM, the fruity and vanilla path. There is no perfume that guarantees compliments or automatically corresponds to a specific age.
For everyday or the office, the context matters as much as the bottle. A shared space, a journey in transport and a heated room do not necessarily call for the same dosage as an outdoor outing. Start moderately and adjust according to the rendering, rather than seeking maximum projection.
The sheets of both references orient them towards the cool periods and evenings. If your priority is use in high heat, their warm character deserves a prior test.
Longevity and sillage: avoid the false decisive criterion
We do not designate a universal winner on longevity. It varies notably according to the skin, hydration, climate, support and the quantity applied. A duration announced by another person is therefore not a guarantee of your own result.
The best choice is not necessarily the one that makes the most noise: it is the one whose base you also appreciated after several hours. To deepen this difference, consult our guide Sillage, longevity and intensity: what differences?.
Three questions to separate Asad and 9PM
- What attracts you the most: spices and wood, or fruit and vanilla? The first choice leads to Asad; the second to 9PM.
- What facets do you wish to avoid? If tobacco and coffee do not please you, be careful with Asad. If the vanilla sweetness and tonka tire you, be careful with 9PM.
- For what use are you really buying it? Choose for your usual occasions, not for a power ranking or a trend.
If you can try them, compare them in similar conditions and wait for drying. Do not decide solely on the first spray or on the list of notes.
Frequent questions before purchase
Do Asad and 9PM look alike?
They share a warm orientation and notes like amber, vanilla and patchouli, but their constructions differ. Asad highlights spices, tobacco, coffee and wood; 9PM follows an apple, cinnamon, flowers, vanilla and tonka direction. They are not interchangeable.
Which one to choose if I prefer sweet perfumes?
Between the two, 9PM is the most logical path for a fruity and vanilla preference. This does not guarantee that it will suit you: your tolerance to sweetness and the rendering on skin remain determining.
Which one to choose if I do not like sweet perfumes?
Asad can be more relevant if you are looking for a spicy and woody contrast, but it also contains vanilla and an amber base. If you refuse any sweetness, do not choose one of the two by default.
Should you buy both?
Not necessarily. Start with the one that best corresponds to your tastes. A collection only makes sense if each bottle responds to a real desire, not because a comparison presents two options.
Our advice to choose without dispersing yourself
At Parfum Orient, we advise you to start from your preferences: Asad for a spicy, tobacco and woody direction, or 9PM for a fruity, sweet and vanilla direction. Consult the sheet of your favorite to check the format, the price and the availability at the time of ordering.
If you then hesitate between the variants of 9PM, our article Afnan 9PM, 9PM Elixir and Night Oud: what differences? deals with another question: choosing within this range, rather than between classic 9PM and Asad.
