What is an oriental perfume oil?
Oriental perfume oils, also known as attar or ittar, are concentrated fragrances of natural origin, alcohol-free, made using ancestral techniques from the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent. Unlike classic eau de parfum, they contain no alcohol-based solvents: the fragrance is dissolved directly in a carrier oil, usually white sandalwood or jojoba oil.
This unique composition gives them exceptional properties: wear time on the skin that can exceed 12 hours, a subtle yet enveloping sillage, and a rich olfactory evolution that gradually reveals itself when it comes into contact with body heat. Attar vs. perfume oil: what’s the difference?
The term attar (or ittar) traditionally refers to a perfume oil obtained by steam-distilling flowers, woods, or resins into a carrier oil. This artisanal technique dates back several centuries, particularly in the cities of Kannauj in India and in the souks of Dubai and Muscat.
