SHUMUKH is a creation presented in Dubai in 2019 by The Spirit of Dubai. Its documentary interest lies in the meeting of perfumery, jewellery, design and cultural storytelling around a monumental collector bottle.
A project at the boundary of perfume and jewellery
According to Guinness World Records, the presented SHUMUKH bottle featured 3,571 diamonds. Guinness also reported an announced price of about $1.295 million and described the fragrance as unisex. These figures refer to the 2019 collector project.
A bottle built around the story of Dubai
The Spirit of Dubai presented the project around themes including pearl diving, falconry, Arabian horses, roses, Arabic hospitality and Dubai's image as a future-facing city.
Why is SHUMUKH interesting?
SHUMUKH shows how a perfume can be conceived as a cultural and collector object in which fragrance, bottle design, jewellery, staging and brand storytelling contribute to perceived value. Its price should therefore not be read as a simple measure of olfactory quality.
