How to Scent Your Home with Oriental Products

|Stéphane LE MOAL

In Arab culture, fragrance is not limited to the body—the entire home is scented. Bakhoor, incense, textile sprays, diffused oils… Discover how to create an oriental olfactory atmosphere in your home.

Bakhoor: The Ultimate Oriental Incense

Bakhoor is undoubtedly the most authentic way to scent a home in an oriental style. These agarwood chips infused with precious oils are burned in a traditional incense burner (mabkhara). The aromatic smoke permeates fabrics, curtains, and cushions for hours.

How to use it:

  1. Place a few chips in the incense burner on a hot coal
  2. Let the smoke diffuse throughout the room for 10 to 15 minutes
  3. Pass your clothes and cushions through the smoke to infuse them

Oriental Textile Spray: The Modern Version

For quickly scenting sofas, curtains, bed linen, and cushions, Dubai textile spray is the ideal solution. Formulated without harsh alcohol, it provides all the home’s textiles with a long-lasting fragrance featuring enveloping oriental notes.

Oriental Essential Oil Diffuser

An ultrasonic diffuser with a few drops of oriental oils (oud, rose, amber, white musk) transforms any room into a Middle Eastern interior. Ideal for:

  • The living room: amber and woody notes for a warm atmosphere
  • The bedroom: white musk and vanilla for peaceful sleep
  • The entrance: light oud for a memorable first impression

Stick or Cone Incense

More accessible than bakhoor, oriental stick incense (oud, rose, sandalwood) is easy to find and quickly scents a room. Burn it for 15 to 20 minutes before guests arrive to create an authentic oriental ambiance.

Oriental Scented Candles

Soy wax candles with oriental fragrances (amber, musk, vanilla oud) release a soft, continuous scent. They are ideal for evenings and create a cozy, luxurious atmosphere.

Tip: Combine Methods for Optimal Results

  • Base: bakhoor or incense for textiles (lasts 24–48 hours)
  • Daily freshness: textile spray on cushions and curtains
  • Occasional ambiance: diffuser or candle for evenings
